Sedation: fear of dentists is finally forgotten

Oct 6, 2014 | Blog | 0 comments

Before explaining the process of sedation I would like to emphasize that modern dentistry is painless. Yes PAINLESS. Some of you were fortunate to meet immediately a patient and gentle dentist who assured you that you wouldn’t feel any pain. And it didn’t hurt much.

Throughout our long dental practice we found out that the majority of people had painful memories related to visits to dentist. Why? Because fears and bad experience are developed in childhood. Brushing teeth, regular visits to dentist, taking care of our health are habits that we adopt at early age. Without any intention to blame it all on parents or unethical dentists, we have to draw a conclusion: fear of dentists is developed at early age, visit to dentist is immediately associated to pain due to the bad experience in childhood. Today there is a new technology, a new approach and a new visual identity of modern dentist, completely different from the one of our memory.
Only one visit to our dental studio will be sufficient even for a person who is most afraid of dentists. As soon as you enter the studio magic happens: our dental studio smells like wellness centre, there aren’t any distinctive odours of medications, our staff  is always smiling, doctors wear pastel uniforms, each chair is equipped with a screen showing various programs. You know that you are in good hands.

You are still afraid? Don’t worry because modern dentistry offers solution to everything, even for those who are so afraid of dentist that they developed phobias. Sedation is a solution for you.

Sedation

What is sedation and how it is used?

The real name of this procedure is a conscious sedation or analgesia and though it may sound like an oxymoron it is a state of semi consciousness, a state of pleasant snooze. Modern procedures combined with natural substances that are completely safe enabled the development of this particular sedation method.
Analgesia is a state of diminished consciousness used to relieve pain and to allow a doctor to perform long and complicate procedures. Patient doesn’t feel any pain, though his reflexes are preserved and he is able to communicate with a doctor.

Fear, discomfort during long procedures, anxiety disappear during sedation. Therefore sedation is a perfect solution allowing a dental procedure to become a pleasant experience for a patient.

Sedation is designed for long and difficult dental procedures but it is equally used in radical and demanding treatments as well as in minor procedures for phobic patients. It allows performing of complete intervention during one visit to the dentist.
Sedation process is easy and fast and both doctor and patient profit from it. Patient is able to communicate actively with a doctor and to follow his instructions. Natural substances used for this procedure are easily absorbed and completely harmless. Patients’ condition is monitored during the entire procedure and the risk is minimal.

Thus, as we have already explained, there is a solution to everything. The fear of dentist is finally forgotten. It is time to realise that a modern dentistry provides best care of patients. Forget the old associations and bad experiences, be like our patients: smile when you visit and leave your dentist studio.
